Sonia’s Journey: A Legacy of Compassion and Commitment
A Psychotherapist and a renowned Corporate Trainer, Sonia’s career now spans over 20 years.
Sonia was blessed with Udyati, her first-born daughter, in 2004. Her journey to understand Autism and seek solutions started shortly after Udyati was diagnosed to be on the Autism Spectrum. Sonia has trained at the premier institute AFA, Action for Autism, and is certified from AACTION AUTISM, Chicago, USA. She also holds the rare distinction of being one of the few to be TAP Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 certified in the sub-continent.
Sonia often says:
“I am NOT against Autism, I am not on a crusade to try and defeat it! I am just pro finding solutions for individuals who have Autism, solutions that will help them satisfy their potential.”
With this objective, Sonia has set up three schools to date. She collaborated with the Udaan Foundation to set up the ASD facility at their Dayanand Colony branch. Soon after, she was approached by the Umeed Foundation, Malibu Towne, Gurgaon, to set up their facility. On 2nd July 2012, Sonia founded Oranea Kids, a school for individuals with special needs.
“It is my life’s goal now to work towards rehabilitating persons with autism in our society and culture. Autism is not a disease or a curse that should be hidden, frowned upon, or one that needs to be handled with kids gloves laced with sympathy! If anything, it is a culture, a fascinating one that needs to be understood, learned from, and respected. These individuals have as much a right to be part of the mainstream as any other.”
Sonia’s indomitable spirit finds expression in rallying for the rights of individuals with Autism and collaborating with like-minded parents to set up more services and schools for Autism.
Sonia lives in Noida with her two daughters and her husband.
